Scotland bring in new faces for 3013 Rugby League World

Gold Coast Titans full-back Matt Russell is one of six uncapped players included in Scotland's World Cup squad.

The 20-year-old, who was born in Irvine, featured in the Super League for Hull and Wigan before moving to Australia and is among four NRL-based players who were named in Steve McCormack's 23-man group.

Brisbane Broncos scrum-half Peter Wallace was also included along with Gold Coast prop Luke Douglas and North Queensland centre Kane Linnett.

But Wests Tigers prop Keith Galloway and Newcastle Knights winger James McManus are ruled out through injury.

Bradford utility player Danny Addy and Widnes prop Ben Kavanagh are the other new faces, but Scotland will be without Huddersfield centre Joe Wardle, who is to undergo shoulder surgery, while St Helens prop Alex Walmsley is out with a cracked rib.

McCormack has selected three members of Sheffield Eagles' victorious Championship-winning team with hooker Andrew Henderson, prop Mitchell Stringer and second rower Alex Szostak all getting the nod.

Scotland will head into camp on October 13 to prepare for a warm-up game against Papua New Guinea before their opening World Cup clash with Tonga at Workington's Derwent Park on October 29.
