PNG Palais will go up against the current champions, New Zealand, in the opening match of the Oceania Rugby 7s Championship at Noosa in Australia.
Among women who left yesterday was eighteen year old Freda Waula. This will be her first appearance with the team in the international tour.

After two months of training including camping which led to trial match held recently, a final 12 women were selected from the 30 train-on squad.

Most are experienced and well known on field but for some will need to prove their worth and through hard work, sheer determination will pave their way forward.

Freda Waula is only 18, but has already made her name in the outfit. From her humble beginnings, she has shown the commitment and skills needed to go further.

Meiling Choong is not new to the international arena; however this will be her first time to gang up with the team. She started playing Rugby Union when she took up studies in Malaysia.

Coming from a parentage of China and Milne Bay, she is recognized through her game tactics and position plays on field. She wants to see more women taking up the sport.

Coach John Larry, along with his assistant and Team manager Cecil Davani, will keep a close eye on the team and are optimistic to return with the spoils.

Larry said the women are looking forward to take on the regional giants, and New Zealand is no exception.

They will play Samoa in the second match, followed by Australia and Fiji.  The team left the country yesterday afternoon.
