Speed, strength are Hunters’ focus

The Hunters 36-man squad started its 28-day camp yesterday and will run through to Christmas.
PNGRFL operations manager  Shane Morris said  over the 28 days the players would go through several assessments and physical testing, the major focus being on strength development, speed and endurance.
“The goal of this first period of training is to implement the standards that we require for the upcoming season – to be bigger, faster, stronger and fitter,” Morris said.
The final team will be trimmed down in early January. “Several players have left us this season on their next adventure of their life and we wish them all the success in the world,” he said. “Kato Ottio is down with the Canberra Raiders on a train and trail programme with their first grade squad – this is Ottio’s second week and the coaching staff there is impressed with him so far.
“Willie Minoga is at the doorstep of the North Queensland Cowboys with the Townsville Blackhawks – Minoga had his first training session with his new team yesterday.
“Israel Eliab has signed a one year deal with the London Broncos – he is just finalising his requirements and will at his new club in the early January 2016. Israel will train with the Hunters up until he departs.
