Nathan Hindmarsh considering a comeback ... for the Moss Vale Dragons
Nathan Hindmarsh is considering a fairytale return that will take him back to his childhood field of dreams in the NSW southern highlands. The Parramatta great has been in talks to make selected appearances for Group Six outfit Moss Vale Dragons this season. The team's coach and lifelong family friend Andrew Bowie said he'd spoken to Hindmarsh several times since being appointed in October.
"Nothing is set in concrete yet because Nathan is still deciding what he wants to do," Bowie said."Nothing is set in concrete yet because Nathan is still deciding what he wants to do," Bowie said.
"Certainly, we don't expect him to play every game because of his other work (TV and NRL) commitments. I spoke to him very soon after I got the job and asked if he knew any decent front rowers that were available.
"That's when he suggested he might have a run.
The coup of playing a 330-game legend would be a huge turnaround for the Dragons, who couldn't field a top grade side last winter.
Players generally get paid $300 a win in the competition.
Bowie said additional funding would have to be secured for Hindmarsh as the Group Six administration have a policy of refusing to subsidise individual teams.
As a child, Hindmarsh played for Moss Vale when his much smaller home town - Robertson - didn't have enough players for a team in his age group.
Should he decide to return, Bowie plans to stage a match at Robertson showground that once comprised part of the Hindmarsh family farm.
"It would be great to see him have one last run at Robertson," Bowie said.
