Hakari wins 9th NSL Title
MRDC Hekari United raced to their ninth National Soccer League title after defeating Lae FC 3-0 in a final that was abandoned mid-way into the second half due to poor crowd behavior and field invasion by Lae supporters.
National Soccer League boss Chris Brown told Post -Courier that Lae has seen the last of the competition’s grand final and all finals for that matter, unless the Lae soccer fans improved on their attitude.
Brown also agreed with an assertion that clubs and especially Lae based clubs will have to be responsible for their fans, educate them on the whole aspect for supporting their club and what is soccer all about.
But, the NSL will also have to concede that they made a big blunder when they opted for Port Moresby based referee Job Minan to control the final.
Minan stirred the hornet’s nest when he red carded Lae Captain Kohu Liem midway into the second half for a tackle on his opposite and good friend David Muta.
Liem was shown his second yellow card which turned red and turned the Lae crowd red as well because after sending off Liem, Minan awarded the penalty to Lae FC for the same incident. Minan decisions and actions contradicted the sending of Liem and it was not only that.
In the first half, Hekari defender Eric Komeng crushed Lae flanker Moses Kemakeng who was in possession. Kemaken lay writhing on the ground in pain from the tackle and Minan allowed play to proceed without a hint of care and protection for the player. Post Courier
