Papua New Guinea International, Menzie Yere extends Eagles contract

Sheffield Eagles’ hard hitting centre Menzie Yere has agreed a one year contract extension ahead of Saturday’s Northern Rail Cup Final against Leigh Centurions.
Fans favourite Menzie is often known by his nickname ‘The Jukebox’ for his big hits in matches and the contract extension will see Menzie remain at the Eagles until the end of 2014.
Papua New Guinea international Yere joined the club back in 2009 after Head Coach Mark Aston spotting his talent during the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.
Yere has scored 105 tries for the Eagles in 133 games, scoring 32 of those tries so far in 2013.
Speaking of the news, Aston said, “It’s great we’ve agreed this new deal with Menzie. He’s in good form at the moment on the field and his fitness is getting better and better.
“Menzie might be known for his big hits and drives but he’s a all round performer and a great asset to the squad.
“He’s a character and the fans love him, it’s a big bonus we can announce this ahead of Saturday’s final.”
