Broncos and Knights tie it up
Newcastle and Brisbane have played out a tense 18-all draw after a scoreless but exciting period of extra time at Hunter Stadium on Friday night.
Knights captain Jarrod Mullen missed with four field goal attempts in 10 crazy minutes of golden point, his third and fourth shots both shading the upright after his first two were desperately charged down by the Broncos.
Brisbane pair Peter Wallace and Ben Hunt also missed field goal attempts before the Broncos almost snatched victory after the second siren sounded with a frenetic final piece of play.
The Broncos' share of the points in the stalemate kept their finals hopes flickering, but they will rue blowing an 18-10 lead with eight minutes remaining in regulation time.

Late tries to Newcastle pair Beau Scott and Akuila Uate locked the game up, but veteran hooker Craig Gower missed both conversion attempts, including a sideline shocker with the opportunity to win the match for the Knights in the 80th minute.
Newcastle remain eighth on the ladder, but will drop out of the finals zone if the Warriors beat Cronulla in Auckland on Saturday.
The Broncos are still 12th, three points adrift of the eight and probably needing to win all five of their remaining games to squeeze into the playoffs.
British international Jack Reed made a successful return from a broken collarbone to cross for what looked to be the match-clinching try for the Broncos on the hour.
