Hayne exit understandable: Kenny

Denials by Jarryd Hayne's manager have not stopped speculation mounting that the star fullback will leave Parramatta - and Eels great Brett Kenny admits he wouldn't blame him.

Hayne's agent Wayne Beavis dismissed a weekend report that the Bulldogs would make a million dollar move on his client as "ill informed".

However, Beavis told AAP he would speak again with Hayne - who is contracted with the Eels until the end of 2015 - when the flyer returned from a New Zealand trip this week.

Kenny kept his fingers crossed Hayne would remain but believed the timing of Eels coach Ricky Stuart using a get out clause to link with Canberra could not have been worse.

"I would hate to see him go but with everything that has gone on over the past few years I would understand why a bloke wouldn't want to stay there," he told AAP.

"You would like to think he would stick to his contract but the head coach has not set a good example by just walking out.

"But Parramatta should do all they can to ensure he stays."

The rumour mill went into another gear after Bulldogs skipper Michael Ennis on Monday described Hayne as the perfect replacement for Brisbane-bound No.1 Ben Barba.

And there were ominous signs when Hayne failed to confirm his future at last week's Eels presentation night.

Hayne's departure would be a devastating blow to an Eels club trying to rebuild after back-to-back NRL wooden spoons and Stuart's recent defection.

Apart from their lack of on-field success, Parramatta have endured boardroom in-fighting and gone through six senior coaches in seven seasons.

However, Eels boss Steve Sharp sounded quietly confident about Hayne remaining.

"If he came to me, I'd tell him he's playing for the Eels for the next two years," he told Sydney radio's Triple M.

"He's an integral player and I don't think he wants to go anywhere - he recommitted to us just this year."

The Eels board met on Monday to discuss Stuart's replacement, finalising a short list believed to feature ex-North Queensland mentor Neil Henry, Jason Taylor and NRL referees boss Daniel Anderson.

Besides finding Stuart's replacement, Eels assistant Dean Pay is also tipped to link with Canberra while under 20s mentor Andrew Webster has left for Wests Tigers.

But Kenny believed a new-look coaching line-up may be a blessing in disguise.

"That's a worry for any club, so many coaches leaving but having said that in the end it may be better not having them there, just start fresh," he said.

"And this is also a chance for the club to have former players involved, telling the current Eels that it is time to forget about the game for a little while, go out and be a normal person and come back and start fresh."
