Rugby championship: All Blacks and S. Africa both win

South Arica and New Zealand both maintained their 100 percent starts to the Rugby Championship on Saturday, with the Springboks romping to a record 38-12 victory over Australia while the All Blacks defeated Argentina 28-13.South Africa won their first match in Australia in four years and kept the Wallabies win-less in the Rugby Championship with a record 38-12 victory in Brisbane on Saturday, while New Zealand ground out a 28-13 victory against Argentina.

The Springboks won for the first time in nine visits to Brisbane in 42 years with a four tries-to-nil thrashing to remain unbeaten in the southern hemisphere series along with the All Blacks, who they face in Auckland next weekend.

It was the biggest win by the Springboks in Australia and they totted up more points than their last 32-25 win over the Wallabies in Australia in 2009.

South Africa led 16-6 at halftime but broke the game wide open in the second half with three tries in eight minutes to keep Ewen McKenzie without a win in three Tests as coach of the Wallabies.

Forward Coenie Oosthuizen, skipper Jean de Villiers, fullback Zane Kirchner and winger Willie Le Roux scored tries with Morne Steyn kicking three conversions and four penalties.

Replacement forward Oosthuizen had given the Springboks a flying start when he plunged over for a converted in the sixth minute of the first half.

Steyn kicked three successful penalties in the first half, but Australia kept themselves in the game with Christian Lealiifano kicking two penalties of his own.

But the Springboks dominated after the break and although Lealiifano scored two more penalties early on in the second half, the Springboks were able to capitalise after a Habana break and kick ahead with de Villiers surging through a gap to score their second try on the hour and open up a 12-point lead.

It got worse for the Wallabies with two tries in two minutes through Kirchner and Le Roux as the Springboks finished full of running for a great night for South African rugby.

It was a triumph for coach Heynecke Meyer, who wildly cheered his team's tries watching from the coach's box, after the Springboks back-to-back wins over Argentina to keep the pressure on defending champions New Zealand, who earlier in the day had seen off Argentina with a scrappy win in Hamilton.

All Blacks win but lose McCaw to knee injury

All Blacks flyhalf Daniel Carter became the first man to reach 1,400 test points to help his side to a 28-13 win over the Pumas, though the victory was tempered by a serious knee injury to skipper Richie McCaw.

McCaw, who had only recently returned to rugby after a six-month sabbatical, suffered a torn medial ligament in his left knee after prop Charlie Faumuina had fallen on the flanker's leg in a tackle and is likely to miss the rest of the tournament.

The All Blacks had attempted to play their up-tempo style against the Pumas but heavy rain that began falling early in the first half thwarted their execution with numerous handling errors turning the game into a stop-start affair.

The Pumas had opened the scoring through a Juan Manuel Leguizamon try, converted by Nicolas Sanchez to open up a 7-0 lead.

But a spell of All Black pressure paid off when Carter, who had started on 1,399 points, slotted a penalty between the posts, followed by two quick Aaron Smith tries to give the All Backs a 15-10 lead at the break.

Carter and Sanchez traded early second half penalties before the All Blacks got some breathing space when they charged down a clearing kick and spread the ball to an unmarked Julian Savea.

Carter converted to give the home side a 25-13 lead and was then immediately replaced by Barrett, who slotted a late penalty as the game lost its shape when both coaches made numerous replacements and conditions deteriorated.

After three matches, South Africa leads the 2013 Rugby Championship with 14 points, one ahead of New Zealand in second place with 13.  Argentina are some way back with one point, while winless Australia are stuck on zero.
