THE Kumuls have set their sights on  making the quarter-finals of the Rugby League World Cup.
When asked by ABC’s Liam Fox at a press conference, before heading to the United Kingdom on Monday, coach Adrian Lam did not answer straight away but instead spoke about the “goals” that the team had set for every stage of the tournament.
Despite having an easier pool in the 2013 edition compared to 2008 –  Australia, England and New Zealand – Lam was under no illusions as to the difficulty of the task at hand.
“We feel a realistic goal is to make the quarter-finals of this World Cup,” Lam said.
“We’ve got a pretty tough pool with Samoa, France and New Zealand. But we’re excited about the challenge that lies ahead.
“The players are all aware of that goal and one of the things that we’re excited about is that everyone gets to their potential and performs.”
The Kumuls have scored wins against Group B opponents New Zealand (24-22 in Port Moresby, 1986) and France (34-24 in Goroka, 2001) in the past and will fancy their chances against Samoa.
The side arrived in London yesterday  and made their way to Hull to start their preparations for Saturday’s warm-up match against Scotland
