PNG Games to nurture athletes
ATHLETES participating in the 6th PNG Games in Lae, Morobe, will be assisted to find opportunities to reach the top level of their codes just like Games Ambassador Toea Wisil, says the Host Organising Committee.
The HOC in a media statement said apart from the sporting events, different opportunities offered by the country’s most central center and different planned programmes will promote and instil onenesss and patriotism in athletes to take to the international sporting arena.
“The 6th PNG Games in Lae is no exception and the scenario is to produce quality sportsmen and women who have the potential to make it big time in their different sporting codes.
“The 2014 Games will showcase some extraordinary events.
“Many young sportsmen and women in different codes are also competing in other international sporting events and fixtures and PNG should be proud that as a country.
“Untapped talent must be nurtured and encouraged.
“The stance taken by the national government to support sports at all levels is a step in the right direction,” it said.
“The Morobe Host Organizing Committee has synchronised plans to blend sports with cultural activities – integrating the games theme to harmonise and enhance provincial athletes and officials to be well prepared for other future PNG Games.
“Progress is favourable,” it noted.
