Jets, Tigers make Q-Cup playoffs
THE Ipswich Jets and the Easts Tigers will face off in Week 2 of the Queensland Cup finals series after both teams scored contrasting wins yesterday in their elimination semi-final clashes.
The Jets blew last year’s premiers the Northern Pride off the park 54-26 at the North Ipswich Reserve, with fullback Carlin Anderson and Matt Parcell each scoring doubles in the nine-try romp.
Anderson capped off a man-of-the-match performance with a perfect nine from nine with the boot.
The Pride were competitive throughout but could not handle the home side’s frenetic pace or their ball-in-hand style and constant movement.
Brett Anderson grabbed a hat-trick and Javid Bowen and Ben Spina etched their names in the try-scorer’s list while Justin Castellaro knocked over three goals. In the other finals match in Brisbane, the visiting Tigers showed their championship qualities with a 32-24 win over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
Melbourne Storm troopers Richie Kennar, Mahe Fonua and Felise Kaufusi scored tries. The Seagulls four tries came through Matthew Smith (2), Matt grieve and Mitch Frei while Matt Seamark converted all four tries.
