SP PNG Hunters Reveal Final Squad for 2025 Hostplus Cup Season
The SP PNG Hunters have confirmed their final 33-man squad for the 2025 Hostplus Cup season following an official announcement at Nature Park in Port Moresby. The roster includes 11 fresh recruits, marking a new chapter for the team as they strive to build on last year’s success, which saw them reach the finals for the first time in seven years.
Head coach Paul Aiton, now in his second season at the helm, has overseen a rigorous preseason, described as one of the toughest in the club’s history. The team is determined to improve on their top-six finish in 2024, setting their sights on securing a place among the top four in the upcoming campaign.
The unveiling ceremony attracted key stakeholders, corporate sponsors, and media representatives, underlining the significance of the announcement for Papua New Guinea’s premier rugby league franchise. The strong presence of partners reflected the ongoing support for the Hunters as they prepare for another competitive season.
Several standout players from the Digicel Cup have joined the squad, strengthening the team’s lineup. Notable new signings include Rabaul Gurias’ duo Himson Ulalom and Steven Bruno, Lae Tigers’ talents Zebedy Kip, Douglas David, and Graham Rex, as well as Central Dabaris forward Vane Manuma. Enga Mioks’ Limbi Henry, Mt Hagen Eagles’ pair Emmanuel Anis and Lynchill Kiap, and Hela Wigmen’s Murray Connors and Jacob Lot have also been added, bringing power and depth to the Hunters’ forward pack.
Aiton expressed confidence in his squad, emphasizing the benefits of the preseason trials in shaping the final selection. He noted that the blend of new and experienced players had injected fresh energy into the team, which he believes will be crucial in achieving their goals. Aiton also confirmed the return of Kumul prop Koso Bandi, who had been training with the Central Dabaris due to disciplinary reasons.
