PNG Rugby Fans Gear Up for PM’s XIII Showdown with Australia

Port Moresby, PNG – The annual Prime Minister’s XIII rugby league clashes between Papua New Guinea and Australia will return to Port Moresby on Sunday, 12 October 2025, as part of PNG’s 50th Independence Anniversary festivities.

Festivities will start at 9am at the Santos National Football Stadium with the Junior Orchids taking on the Australian Schoolgirls, followed by the Junior Kumuls battling the Australian Schoolboys at 11am.

At 1pm, the PM’s XIII women will face off before the men’s marquee match at 3pm. PNG Rugby Football League CEO Stanley Hondina said the games give players from both countries a vital chance to progress into professional rugby league, including pathways to the NRL and NRLW.

Tickets are already available at Post PNG outlets, with prices ranging from K30 for the Eastern Stand to K120 for the Grandstand.

All squads will be confirmed next week as excitement builds for the high-energy rugby league day.

Since starting in 2005 with the men’s match, the PM’s XIII has grown to feature women’s and junior fixtures and continues to support humanitarian initiatives in both PNG and Australia.
