PNG international Tai signs with Capras for 2026 Queensland Cup season
Former Warrington Wolves outside back and PNG international Roderick Tai has secured a new club in the Queensland Cup following his release from the UK Super League side last month.
The Central Queensland Capras yesterday confirmed Tai’s signing, announcing that the former PNG Hunters centre will join the Rockhampton-based outfit for the 2026 season. Tai will link up with a growing list of Papua New Guinean players at the club, including Nixon Putt and Valentine Richard.

Tai, who made 41 appearances and scored 13 tries across two seasons with Warrington, was informed earlier this year that his contract would not be renewed. The decision left the 26-year-old searching for a new opportunity after featuring regularly for the Wolves since his arrival in 2024.
Only weeks after leaving the Super League, Tai finalised his return to the Queensland Cup, marking an important new chapter in his professional career.
Capras head coach Lionel Harbin praised the signing, saying Tai brings the type of experience the club has been looking for—having played at Super League level as well as representing PNG on the international stage.
Tai will join a strong PNG contingent at the Capras, who currently have Nixon Putt, Zev John, Kaiyah Wiembi and Valentine Richard on their roster.
Before moving to England ahead of the 2024 season, Tai spent several years with the PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup. He later signed with Warrington and made his debut in the Challenge Cup under the guidance of former South Sydney Rabbitohs legend Sam Burgess. He went on to feature consistently in the starting side, helping the Wolves reach the Super League finals in 2024.
However, Tai fell out of favour during the 2025 campaign and was granted permission to explore options elsewhere.
With his move now confirmed, Tai is expected to be a key figure for the Capras in 2026 as he aims for another shot at the NRL or a possible return to the Super League.
