Kiwi's coach holding off selecting Marshall for Rugby World Cup

The coach of the Kiwis is holding fire on making any decisions over selecting Benji Marshall for this year's Rugby League World Cup.

The Wests Tigers five-eighth is seeking a release from his NRL contract, with his likely destination rugby union with the Waratahs or Blues.

Stephen Kearney says it'd been clear Marshall was considering other options.

He says it wasn't a great deal of surprise to him that he's going but he's reluctant to go into details until a release is confirmed.

Australian media has speculated Marshall may play union in Japan to supplement any Super Rugby income, but coach Sir John Kirwan says that hasn't been part of their discussions.

He says he's spoken to Marshall and his manager, but that commercial package has not been assessed.

The Tigers will decide at a board meeting tonight whether to grant Marshall's request.
