Dominant PNG Hunters Secure Big Away Win in Round 3
Papua New Guinea Hunters have recorded a convincing 38-14 win over Western Clydesdales in their Round 3 clash of the Hostplus Cup, showcasing their attacking strength on foreign soil.
The match, played at Toowoomba Sports Ground, saw the Hunters take early control and never relinquish their grip on the contest.
PNG made an explosive start, with Sanny Wabo touching down in the opening minute before Myles Banam added another shortly after. The early double set the platform for a dominant first half.
Further tries from Joel Gena and Benji Kot extended the Hunters’ lead to 24-4 at halftime, leaving the Clydesdales with a mountain to climb.
The home side showed some resistance in the second half through Peter Gubb, Christopher Woodbridge and Denzel Burns, but the Hunters continued to apply pressure and capitalise on scoring chances.
Bruce Bawase crossed after the break, while Gena grabbed his second try and Lynchill Kiap sealed the result late in the match to cap off a strong team performance.
Trevor Solu and Jamie Mavoko were reliable with the boot, adding five conversions to complement the Hunters’ seven tries in a well-rounded display.
