Queensland Maroons Edge NSW Blues in Origin Game II Thriller, 26–24

The Queensland Maroons have kept their 2025 State of Origin hopes alive with a nail-biting 26–24 victory over the New South Wales Blues in Game II at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Despite scoring fewer tries than the Blues, Queensland’s clinical kicking proved decisive. The Maroons crossed for four tries—two from speedster Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow in the 12th and 19th minutes, one from Cameron Munster in the 30th, and another from Kurt Capewell in the 36th. All four were successfully converted by Valentine Holmes, who also added a crucial penalty goal in the 28th minute, ensuring maximum points from his five kicks.

The Blues, meanwhile, put on a strong attacking display with five tries of their own. Brian To’o bagged a hat-trick with tries in the 6th, 45th, and 64th minutes, while Stephen Crichton and Angus Crichton added one each. However, NSW kicker Zac Lomax struggled under pressure, converting only two of his five attempts.

At halftime, Queensland led 26–6 after a dominant first-half performance, but the Blues mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, closing the gap to just two points. A missed 2-point field goal attempt by NSW in the dying minutes ultimately sealed their fate.

With the series now tied 1–1, attention turns to the decider in Game III, where both teams will battle for Origin supremacy in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 series.
